About the Team

Kaitlyn Donlevy

Owner and Certified Orton-Gillingham Practitioner

Kaitlyn, our head tutor and owner, has a Bachelor of General Studies degree from the U of C and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Otago in New Zealand. She worked as an elementary school teacher for ten years, teaching in various settings, from private to public and French immersion classrooms.

After her eldest son was diagnosed with Dyslexia in 2015, she completed over 100 hours of Orton-Gillingham training from the Orton-Gillingham Online Academy and The Reach Learning Centre in Vancouver. Kaitlyn completed a one-year supervised practicum and is a Certified Orton-Gillingham Practitioner with OG Canada. In addition, she has completed a twenty-five-hour intensive Level B assessment training. Kaitlyn is passionate about teaching writing and has completed training using the SRSD writing method through SRSD Online and thinkSRSD.

Most recently, she completed a speech-to-print course called Evidence-Based Literacy Intervention (EBLI). However, she did not find it to be an appropriate intervention for children who struggle with reading and spelling; therefore, it will not be offered as a tutoring option with Literacy Unlocked.

Kaitlyn is highly knowledgeable in structured literacy and dyslexia. She has delivered professional development sessions to schools, consulted with teachers and parents, and worked alongside the Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta to update the Reading Readiness Screening Tool (RRST), now called AFRS, and the Right to Read course. In 2025, she accepted a part-time position as a Literacy Specialist with RENERT School, helping to develop effective literacy instruction and assessment from kindergarten to grade 3.

Kaitlyn found her passion for helping children with dyslexia after her two sons were diagnosed. She has seen firsthand how exceptional the dyslexic brain is and what it is capable of with the right instructional methods and a dedicated teacher. She aims to connect with each child and create a learning environment that is supportive and fun!

When she is not teaching, she enjoys yoga, listening to audiobooks while walking her dog, camping, and spending time with her family.

Subrina Sharma

Subrina joined Literacy Unlocked in 2019 and has since worked with over 70 students using the Orton-Gillingham method. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a focus on developmental psychology and brings a strong understanding of how children learn, grow, and build confidence over time.

Subrina began her career in a school environment, but soon discovered that one-on-one instruction allowed her to have a more direct and lasting impact on students. She believes that meaningful learning begins with connection, prioritizing strong relationships as the foundation for academic growth. Her thoughtfulness and flexibility allow her to adapt her teaching to each student’s needs and learning style, supporting skill development and independence.

Known for her compassionate and creative teaching style, Subrina is deeply valued by both students and families. Driven by a genuine love of learning, she brings enthusiasm and consistency to her work, fostering confidence, curiosity, and a lasting love of learning in every student she supports. Outside of work, she enjoys experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, exploring nature, and playing with her little nephew.

Amber Shandro

With a deep commitment to student success, Amber is a caring, dedicated, and effective educator with over twenty years of experience teaching children from kindergarten through Grade 6. While she truly loved her time in the classroom, she felt drawn to a more personalized approach to teaching—one that allowed her to meet students exactly where they are.

Over the past three years, she has focused her work on one-on-one instruction as an Orton-Gillingham literacy tutor with Literacy Unlocked. This transition has been incredibly meaningful. Working closely with individual students has reinforced what a privilege it is to teach children, and there is nothing more rewarding than helping a student discover that they can read and write. Supporting them as they grow into confident, independent learners and witnessing their progress firsthand is the most fulfilling part of her work.

After seeing the remarkable impact of the Orton-Gillingham approach in literacy, Amber became curious about its potential in mathematics instruction. This curiosity led her to complete an Orton-Gillingham math training, where she once again witnessed the power of a structured, multisensory approach to support students who struggle with math. Please contact Amber directly at ambertheogtutor@gmail.com for inquiries about math tutoring.

Amber is deeply committed to ongoing professional learning and continually seeks opportunities to grow as an educator. She thrives when she can help students reach their full potential. Outside of teaching, Amber enjoys activities that keep her active and grounded, including gardening, hiking, and skiing. Most of all, she cherishes time spent with her family and pets—and she always makes time for a good book.

Jennifer Frohlich

Jenn Frohlich is a literacy tutor with a strong interdisciplinary background in both education and health. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and a Dietetic Internship at the University of Alberta. As a young adult working in pediatric nutrition she developed a deep understanding of child development and the importance of early intervention. Wanting to work more closely with children, she transitioned to education and completed a Bachelor of Education with specialization in Inclusive Education from the University of Calgary. For the past 10 years, Jenn has taught in both inclusive classroom settings and specialized classrooms for children with complex learning needs. This past year, she started her Masters of Educational Psychology for students who are blind or with low vision at Mount Saint Vincent University.

Jenn’s tutoring philosophy is rooted in a student-centred, personalized approach that prioritizes strong foundational reading skills. She believes children learn best through explicit, consistent, and playful instruction that is thoughtfully tailored to their individual strengths and goals. Working one-to-one allows Jenn to build meaningful, trusting relationships with her students and to dedicate focused time to support their unique learning journeys. She balances structured instruction with positivity and encouragement, intentionally building on success and celebrating progress. Jenn finds deep joy in those moments when learning ‘clicks’ for a child and their confidence as a reader begins to grow.

Outside of her professional work, Jenn is a busy Mom to two young children, ages 4 and 7, who bring curiosity, goofiness, and plenty of energy to her everyday life. She enjoys volleyball, yoga, and board games, but most enthusiastically lives out the saying “the lake is calling”. She spends as much time as she can waterskiing, swimming, and soaking up every last minute of sunshine on the water. Jenn cherishes children’s sense of wonder and natural curiosity about the world. Their boundless energy and inquisitive minds fuel her passion for teaching and her commitment to creating meaningful, confidence-building learning experiences where children feel supported, capable, and excited to learn.

Morgan Healy

Morgan Healy completed her Bachelor of Arts with a double major of English and Psychology, with a focus on developmental psychology, as well as her Bachelor of Education at St. Francis Xavier University. While there, she began tutoring students, and discovered a passion for helping students succeed in the English Language Arts. While reading was always a favourite activity for Morgan, several of her friends and family have learning disabilities that made it difficult to access the joy of reading.  Knowing how hard her loved ones worked to be readers and writers inspired Morgan to focus on students with extra learning needs.

Morgan has worked in a wide range of classrooms as a teacher, and has spent the past six years in the elementary level at Foothills Academy, where she has built on her knowledge of learning disabilities, ADHD, Apraxia, and Dysgraphia. She believes in the importance of connecting with students, and providing unconditional encouragement in their efforts. Morgan ensures her students feel safe and supported on their learning journey, as well as celebrated as they make progress. In 2025 Morgan joined the Literacy Unlocked team, where she continues to learn and develop her practice as an educator.

Outside of the classroom, Morgan loves spending time with friends and family, checking out her local library, and going for runs. She always has at least one book on the go, and loves chatting with readers about their favourite books.

Amy MacDonald

Amy MacDonald is an experienced elementary teacher and literacy specialist passionate about helping children become confident, successful learners. She holds a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lethbridge and is a certified Orton-Gillingham Classroom Practitioner.

With over 13 years of experience, Amy has worked as a classroom teacher for grades 2–6, literacy and math interventionist, and learning coach. She works closely with students to provide structured, student-centered literacy instruction that fosters skill-building and confidence.

Amy’s work in literacy became deeply personal when her own son was diagnosed with dyslexia. This experience gave her insight from a parent’s perspective and strengthened her commitment to structured literacy and research-based intervention, helping her understand both the challenges families face and the relief when the right support is in place.

When Amy is not teaching, she enjoys yoga, strength training, and hiking. She also loves spending time with her family, watching her two sons play hockey, and cuddling with her puppy.

“Literacy Unlocked came recommended to us by our daughter’s school, she had been struggling with spelling and writing assignments.  With Kaitlyn’s tutoring, our daughter improved in a number of literacy skills.  We have seen her become more confident and the quality of her school work has improved.  Both of our children now have been able to work with Kaitlyn.  Her method and approach with students makes it easier for parents to practice literacy skills at home, without a struggle.”
