Literacy Unlocked

Specialized Tutoring for Children and Youth with Dyslexia & Dysgraphia

You’re in the right place

Do you have a child with dyslexia or a child who is struggling with reading, writing, and spelling despite regular classroom instruction?

Having a child who is struggling with learning to read can be extremely stressful for the whole family. As a mom and teacher with two dyslexic sons, I know from experience just how hard it can be. Classrooms are bursting at the seams, teachers have little time for one-on-one instruction, and playing the wait-and-see game just doesn’t feel right.

Struggling to read at school can impact all areas of your child’s academic life. Their self-esteem, relationships with peers, and overall attitude toward school can all be negatively affected when reading and writing do not come easily.

Looking for a way to teach my own children led me to find the Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach. OG is the gold standard in literacy instruction for struggling readers. I became a certified Orton-Gillingham Practitioner because I am passionate about helping all children learn to read, regardless of their diverse learning differences. My qualified team of teachers at Literacy Unlocked will work with you to support your child so they can rise to their potential

We would be honoured to help your child on their path to literacy success!

What makes us different?

At Literacy Unlocked, we are committed to staying up to date on the latest research surrounding the science of reading. We blend aspects of speech-to-print and the OG approach. We have access to the latest high-quality evidence-based materials and programs. Each location is stocked with engaging decodable books and fun educational games to make learning effective and fun!

Your child’s progress will be monitored through periodic progress monitoring specific to Literacy Unlocked to ensure that your child is retaining the content that has been taught. Beginning in September 2023, students will also be progress monitored using the mCLASS (DIBELS 8 materials) literacy assessment tools.

We understand that families have busy lives, and it can sometimes be challenging to complete the weekly practice work. This is why we have brought in an exciting online practice option called Boost Reading that your child can do independently. This is an optional add-on and allows for extra practice. “I cannot say enough good things about Literacy Unlocked. Kaitlyn and her team are amazing educators who are passionate about meeting each child where they are at and at making learning fun. I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the only program that worked for us.  Not only did it help our son read, it has given him desire to read and pride in what he is capable of. Watching him grow in confidence and actually enjoy going to his lessons has been a blessing. Thank you Kaitlyn and team – I hope you know how much you are appreciated and how valuable you are in the lives of the children and youth in your care. With gratitude, Melissa Pearce.”
