Important Details


Students typically attend one-hour lessons once or twice a week.


We ask that your child register for lessons for the academic term as a minimum. The length of time that your child will require tutoring from Literacy Unlocked will depend on your child’s age, learning style, reading level and progress. A big part of your child’s progress will be completing the practice work that is sent home. The practice work is the reason that Literacy Unlocked can provide the option of tutoring once per week. If your family can not commit to completing the practice work we recommend attending 2 tutoring sessions per week in order to ensure success.

The Orton-Gillingham Method

Literacy Unlocked offers tutoring using the Orton-Gillingham (OG) method to children with dyslexia and other language learning difficulties. The OG method is a proven and well researched multisensory approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling to children with dyslexia. Each week builds upon the previous which allows for skills to build in a manor that promotes mastery of the content.

What Sets Us Apart

Each child that begins their tutoring at Literacy Unlocked completes the handwriting correction lessons before moving on to the OG literacy lessons. The reason for this is that many children with dyslexia or stealth dyslexia (children who read well but have difficulty with spelling, writing and comprehension) do not have a solid sound symbol relationship. At Literacy Unlocked we believe that this is a key learning pathway that needs to be addressed in order to progress successfully through the OG program.

We use a proven and unique multisensory method to teach handwriting that was developed by Jill Ham at the Dyslexia Center of Georgia. We don’t use worksheets, tracing, or copying letters off wall charts, your child will be able to recall how to write the letters of the alphabet without having to think about what they look like simply by hearing the letter sound!

One on One

Lessons are one on one with Kaitlyn Donlevy who is the owner and head tutor at Literacy Unlocked. This is to ensure that your child receives targeted instruction that follows a scope and sequence to develop their confidence and ability.


Option 1: Lessons are $70 per session once a week. This option includes a highly structured and easy to follow practice work book to allow for mastery of the skills taught before returning for the next lesson.

Option 2: If you choose to come twice a week lessons are $60 per session. This is a great option if homework does not work for your family.

* Regardless of which option you choose lesson are to be paid in full at the beginning of the month. Refunds will only be issued if your tutor needs to cancel the session.

Missed Lessons

We understand that sometimes things come up and that is why we allow for one rescheduled lesson per academic term. Due to how full our evening schedules are we can no longer accommodate rescheduled lessons in the evenings. If you need to schedule a make-up lesson it must be before 2pm on weekdays. Academic Terms are defined as September to December, January to March and April to June. The lesson must be rescheduled within the term and is subject to tutor availability. Every effort will be made to reschedule your session.

This policy is in place to ensure that there is a set time slot for your child and that their lessons are of the highest quality.


Monday: 10 am – 2 pm

Tuesday: 9:30 am – 2 pm and 4:00 – 7:00 pm

Wednesday: 9:30 am – 2 pm and 4:00 – 7:00 pm

Thursday: 10 am – 5pm

Friday: closed

Professional Development:

Literacy Unlocked is excited to offer a two hour professional development presentation for teachers. The presentation will debunk myths about dyslexia, provide a clear understanding of how to support dyslexic students in the classroom and give tips on how to incorporate the Orton Gillingham method into your teaching.
